Norcross, GA – The Center for Disease Control (CDC) (http://www.cdc.gov/), in partnership with the Public Health Foundation (PHF) (http://www.phf.org), invites exceptional distance learning professionals to participate as mentors in the eLearning Institute Fellowship program. The goal of this program is to help state and local health departments and public health organizations leverage existing in-house resources and develop necessary skills to create and deliver exceptional online training programs.
Only 14 fellows were chosen this year from a pool of 293 applicants. To be invited to mentor this selective group is quite an honor and a unique opportunity to work with some of the best public health educators in the US.

When asked how she felt mentoring for the third year in a row, Full Tilt Ahead (FTA) CEO Roxanne Russell said “I’ll help out every time they ask because I know how crucial eLearning is to public health. At the beginning of the program everyone spends a day together at the CDC to kick things off. It is very humbling to meet so many people striving to do great things for the public good. It really energizes me to help with public training programs that can potentially impact so many lives.”
As part of the fellowship program, participants create an online training product, receive mentoring support from CDC and outside e-learning experts, collaborate with peers, and take part in online learning opportunities. Participants also travel to the CDC offices in Atlanta, GA to attend an in-person orientation and a final showcase event where they present their e-learning products and receive constructive feedback from their mentors and peers.
The ultimate goal of the program is to increase the quality and reach of public training programs produced by state and local health departments and public health organizations. It doesn’t matter how important a research breakthrough is if the public doesn’t know about or how best to use new information.
The final showcase involves participants presenting their final results of converting dense health information into behavior-changing learning experiences. The program just started this year, but check the CDC and PHF websites in the fall to look for opportunities to apply to next year’s program.
